What role does sleep disturbance play in sexual dysfunction?
This study by Kling et al. (Menopause, 2017) explored the relationship between sleep disturbance and sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women.
Cross Sectional study (study subjects enrolled in the Women’s Health Initiative)
93,668 women were surveyed on their sleep habits from the past 4 weeks, and their sexual activity and satisfaction in the past year. 31% of the women reported having insomnia, and they also had lower rates of sexual satisfaction. Women who slept for less than 7-8 hours a night reported less sexual satisfaction and lower odds of having partnered sexual encounters.
